Shadow Days...

We went to Southland for dinner tonight to TGIs as we were out of food for dinner at home (Safeway sold some dodgy chicken). I made some more purchases at JeansWest. Of course. I had a $20 birthday voucher to spend!

John Mayer, perhaps my all-time ultimate favourite musician ever, has released his new single, Shadow Days.

Ahhhh, I LOVE John Mayer. He is amazing to watch and listen to on the guitar. He is extraordinarily engaging live in concert. He writes good songs and sings so nice. This new song is not bad - as with every new album, he plays around with the formula a bit. The new album is released May 22 - can't wait! It was meant to be released late last year but John Mayer had throat surgery which meant he couldn't finish off his tracks.

Unfortunately, it looks like John Mayer is going through a weird stage again. Great musician, hot when he's behaving normal, but otherwise, strange guy. This was what I think of as John Mayer's last first strange stage, when he was going out with Jessica Simpson and he grew his hair out long. He did, however, writ his best music. The album Continuum is one of my favourite albums of all time and has some amazing songs. Jessica Simpson and John Mayer looked legitimately happy. This was the phase when Jessica Simpson went boho-chic and dyed her hair brown:

In fact, we could go on forever about John Mayer being a man-ho:

John Mayer and Jennifer Love Hewitt, around 2001, back when he was normal. 'Your Body Is A Wonderland' (one pair of candy lips and your bubblegum tongue...) is reportedly about her.

John Mayer and Taylor Swift. She sung on his song 'Half of My Heart', went out with him a couple of times (she should have known better by 2009 because John Mayer's man-ho rep was very well known by then), then cracked the sads when he dumped her and wrote a song 'Dear John' as revenge.

And perhaps the most odd, yet intriguing pairings of all, also occurred during John Mayer's second weird stage (stage one being the long hair when with Jessica Simpson era), when John Mayer got a giant sleeve tattoo and started dating Jennifer Aniston...for over a year!

Just beginning things in 2008.

This pairing actually appealed to me - they were a very sexy couple. The older woman/younger man combo also always is interesting. I'm sure these two would have spent a lot of time at the gym. Apparently, though, Jennifer Aniston was so body obsessed that he couldn't deal with it anymore and that was the source of their conflicts.

Now, it appears John Mayer is going through perhaps his weirdest phase yet: the 'I think I'm Johnny Depp/a homeless man and could afford to take care of my appearance but I can't be arsed' phase:

John Mayer has the potential to be a very good looking man. Exhibit A:

Somehow, in between having throat surgery and being single for obviously too long, no woman is going to want to touch this. Exhibit B:

He's getting around with this hobo beard and strange hat and long, dishevelled hair everywhere. The big hat is not a good look. The whole thing is not a good look, really. But I am still going to buy his album and love his music because that is what he is best with. I'll just close my eyes when I listen - I often did this when he was still good looking.
